

The picture shows leaves of a shrub, Tulsi, scientifically known as Ocimum tenuiflorum.
It is a perennial aromatic plant belonging to the family Lamiaceae.
It is also called Holy basil as it is believed to be sacred in Hindu belief and there are lot of mythological stories about it.
It is thought to bring positivity and peace so, it is planted in homes all over India.
It originated in north central region of India but, it is also grown in Australia, West Africa and middle eastern countries.
It has amazing medicinal properties and it is an essential medicine in Indian Ayurveda system (The medicinal system which is being practised all over the world these days as it includes treatment in natural environment through natural ingredients only).
It has antioxidant, antiseptic and antiviral properties, rich in Vitamin C and enhances the immunity of body.
